The Holocaust was the systematic, state-sponsored persecution and murder of six million European Jews by the Nazi German regime and its allies and collaborators. The Nazis also persecuted and killed millions of other people, including Roma, people with disabilities, Poles, Soviet prisoners of war, LGBTQ+ people, political opponents, and others.
Last week I visited the first freestanding Holocaust museum in the USA – The Zekelman Holocaust Center. While I knew the history and horrors in general terms, it was enlightening to learn more. I especially enjoyed listening to an old-timer who was around as a very young boy and lived through the occupation of France. Given a chance, I recommend everyone spend time and visit a Holocaust museum.
